A little history about the White Alligator

One of the rarest Alligators is the
White Alligator. It belongs to the family Alligatoridae and is only found in areas
of the Southeastern United States. There are two types of white Alligators, Albino and Leucistic [loo-SIS-tic] White alligators. Though seemingly similar,
there is a big difference between the two. Albinos are weak creatures that may display white to yellow skin and
red eyes. Leucistic or White alligators
are strong and have white pigment and blue eyes. The only difference between
a White alligator and other alligators is the color of the skin, which looks like
white chocolate.

There have been recent discoveries of White Alligators, one in 1987 in Louisiana where
18 male hatchlings were found by the Louisiana Land and Exploration Company. These hatchlings were brought under the care and protection of the Louisiana Zoo. The other discovery was in 1994, and only one female was discovered.

White Alligators bring Good Luck

White alligators are revered. Eastern mythology claims that seeing a white alligator brings good luck. According to Cajun lore, staring into the eyes of a white alligator brings good luck and fortune.
